3 highschool graduations across the U.S. finish with gunfire in less than 24 hours

Three high school graduation ceremonies ended with shots fired in separate incidents in Louisiana, Michigan and Tennessee inside the span of 24 hours, one other sobering example of gun violence impacting on a regular basis lives, including that of teenage students.

A 17-year-old was arrested in a lethal shooting after a graduation ceremony for Riverdale High Faculty held on the Center Tennessee State University campus shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday as the gang was leaving. 

Hasani Brewer, 18, was killed and a 17-year-old highschool student wounded, police said. Brewer and the teenager who was shot had gotten into a struggle when a 3rd individual opened hearth, police spokesperson Larry Flowers mentioned at a information conference.

The suspect, who can be 17, was not identified due to his age. He will be arraigned in juvenile courtroom on a first-degree homicide cost, Flowers said.

Brewer was a past graduate of the highschool, and the wounded teenager is a junior, he said.

“The graduation was just ending, folks were leaving, this fight started — so just imagine the chaos when shots rang out,” Flowers stated.
