Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech big said its iconic music participant has been changed by different gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, said: "Right this moment, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have built-in an incredible music expertise across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with help for spatial audio - there is not any better solution to take pleasure in, discover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the first MP3 participant that would maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new category of digital music participant that permits you to put your complete music assortment in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same once more."

Comparable MP3 gamers released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 versions of its music player - the Traditional, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod vary lately, with mobile phone know-how enabling customers to listen to music providers on their phones.

In 2014, the basic click wheel mannequin was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano have been killed off three years later.
