Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech large stated its iconic music player has been replaced by different gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, mentioned: "Right now, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have built-in an unbelievable music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with help for spatial audio - there's no higher technique to enjoy, discover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that might hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new class of digital music participant that allows you to put your complete music collection in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he stated at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the identical once more."

Comparable MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 variations of its music participant - the Basic, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod vary in recent times, with mobile phone technology enabling prospects to listen to music services on their telephones.

In 2014, the classic click on wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano have been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the one mannequin still on sale right now.

With out the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in line with its inventor Tony Fadell.
