NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It is a subject that's taken hold in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Walk Two Moons" have been pulled from shelves.

While these books could be banned from some colleges, there is nonetheless some other place you'll find them.

"Our job is just to make sure that in order for you it, it's here for you," mentioned Public Information Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out right now," said Brown. "So we obtained more copies on order but as quickly as word got round about what occurred in McMinn County, we received plenty of holds."

Those are just among the two million different materials on the Nashville Public Library.

"A lot of people do not want to learn these books; they do not need their children to need to learn these books, or compelled to learn these books, and that is high-quality," said Brown. "But there are so much individuals who do, and we wish to be there for the people who do want to read these materials."

And if you want to make your love for these supplies known, what better approach than along with your library card? The 5,000 restricted edition playing cards for the marketing campaign say "I read banned books."

"All of us watch the TV reveals that we like; all of us watch the different sports or root for the different groups we're part of," stated Brown. "Books aren't any completely different."

The objective is to get the 5,000 library cards in the palms of new sign-ups this month.

"We are not making an attempt to be a push again — a pressure pushing back against these decisions — we want to be an alternative to say, if you happen to might not be able to get it there... you may get it right here," said Brown.

The restricted version library cards are available so long as supplies last.
