Taliban leader orders girls to put on all-covering burqa in public: Decree

Afghanistan’s supreme leader and Taliban chief on Saturday ordered the country’s women to put on the all-covering burqa in public - one of the harshest controls imposed on women’s lives for the reason that Taliban seized energy.

“They need to put on a chadori (head-to-toe burqa) as it is conventional and respectful,” said a decree issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada that was launched by Taliban authorities at a function in Kabul.

“These women who are not too outdated or young must cowl their face, besides the eyes, as per sharia directives, with a purpose to keep away from provocation when meeting men who should not mahram (grownup shut male family),” the decree mentioned.

It added that if girls had no essential work exterior it was “higher they keep at residence.”

During their first regime between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban imposed comparable restrictions on women.
