Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the parent in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

The varsity had early launch and students have been launched on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

According to police, the father or mother, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The school district stated White was contained in the constructing, near the foyer area, and not within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials said there was no menace made and the dad or mum didn't have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff have been injured. The guardian was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass faculty capturing, there have been five instances in North Texas associated to weapons brought to varsities or threats made.

Arlington parents said their minds instantly considered the worst after they have been notified.

No guardian ever wants there to be a motive for them to get a textual content message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

But since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't assist but assume the worst when they do.

"When I received the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to occur.’ I used to be shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most instances, lockdowns are only drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that figuring out what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our instructor acquired a notification on their telephone saying someone was in the constructing," he said.

Guns will not be allowed on school property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to highschool, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington faculty. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington college and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever happened at his faculty.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve acquired to run wherever that’s protected and conceal," she informed her baby.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to talk politics, Mitchell said one thing must be carried out now. 

"They need to speak about it, they want to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t wish to truly move any laws and do anything," he added.
