Florida fifth grader arrested, charged with threatening a mass capturing, police say

A fifth grade student in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to carry out a mass capturing, authorities said.

In a press release Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stated it had learned earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a student at an elementary school.

It stated its native college menace enforcement workforce was instantly notified and began investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written risk to conduct a mass taking pictures," the sheriff's workplace stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led into a police car.

“This pupil’s habits is sickening, particularly after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno mentioned in a statement, noting that the threat came just days after the lethal college taking pictures at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two academics useless.

“Right now is not the time to behave like a little bit delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he said. “This child made a pretend menace, and now he’s experiencing real consequences.”

Marceno said his group “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to analyze the incident.

The remark came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 college capturing after it came to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup as a substitute of instantly transferring in on the gunman.
