Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech large said its iconic music participant has been changed by other devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, said: "At the moment, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have built-in an incredible music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with help for spatial audio - there is no better way to take pleasure in, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 participant that would hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music player that lets you put your complete music assortment in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the same again."

Comparable MP3 players released by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the identical success because the iPod.

Apple has launched five versions of its music participant - the Classic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod range lately, with cell phone know-how enabling clients to listen to music providers on their phones.

In 2014, the classic click on wheel mannequin was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano had been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the one mannequin still on sale in the present day.

Without the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in response to its inventor Tony Fadell.
